Happy New Year! The cold months of January and February find the Harbor School students keeping warm by staying active with our adaptive physical education program under the direction of Ms. Jennifer Bogin. The program features swimming, intramurals for basketball, soccer, floor hockey, baseball and softball, in addition to developing and refining specific skills for each student. Students may also participate in various specials including cheerleading, weight training, first tee golf and walking aerobics.
Ms. Amanda Latham, music therapist, provides a highly motivating and interactive music program for all classes and also offers special instruction in piano, guitar, tone bells, voice/choir, rhythm band, boom whackers, hand bells and theatre/drama. She also integrates with our related services staff to provide music/movement/sensory programming to enhance self-expression.
Our dance program under the direction of Ms. Santhe Bielk, a certified dance instructor features instruction in tap, ballet, lyrical, jazz, hip hop as well as theatre arts. This program is structured to encourage physical fitness, discipline and self-expression as well as an appreciation of music and movement.
Upcoming on January 19th several classes will be attending a Monmouth University Women’s Basketball game and wellness program. This is an interactive health and wellness event providing an opportunity to meet college basketball players and set goals for maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. On February 14th we will host our annual Valentine Dance party with our friends from Alpha and Gateway schools including a DJ and lots of good food! Our younger students will also have their own celebration with music, food and dancing!
