Teacher of the Year

This year we are proud to have as our Teacher of the Year for 2017, Mrs. Patricia D’Agostino as our recipient of this award.

Ms. Patricia D’Agostino has been working in the field of Special Education for the past twenty two years.  Patty earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education from Monmouth University and completed her Junior Practicum at Harbor during the Spring semester.

Patty worked at Harbor on a part time basis as a sub teacher/teacher assistant starting in 2001 combining this experience with her role as a foster parent.

Starting in 2003, Pat worked for two years with the new transition program assisting high school students to gain vocational skills through the job sampling program.

Pat took on a full time position in September 2007 as a 1:1 T/A with the high school program and remained in this position for the next four years.

Beginning in September of 2013, Pat took on a full time teacher position in our high school program and was able to utilize her years of previous experience to maximize learning for all her students.  As a classroom teacher Patty displays a genuine caring and responsive manner and is very connected to her students.  Pat shows great initiative and is always willing to help out in any situation as highlighted by her assistance with our annual Alumni Day.  She has a good sense of humor, is calm during stressful situations and always makes the students feel safe and valued.  Pat’s creative style of teaching is highlighted by the Harbor Hangout weekly café, which fosters social skills and independence in a highly motivating activity.
