Adapted Physical Education

The health and fitness level of our students is always the goal of our APE program.

Our Adapted Physical Education (APE) program is an integral part of our school, offering a dynamic and inclusive approach to physical development and overall well-being. The program is designed to meet the diverse needs of our students through adaptive movement practices that promote physical fitness, motor skills, coordination, and self-confidence.
In addition to physical activity, the program integrates a comprehensive health curriculum that addresses the key areas of physical, mental, and social health. Lessons are tailored to each student's ability level, focusing on developing healthy habits, emotional regulation, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.

Key highlights of our APE program include:

  • Special Olympics Team: Students train and compete in Special Olympics events, building athletic skills, self-esteem, and a strong sense of community.
  • Swimming Program: In partnership with our local swimming pool, students participate in swimming lessons that enhance water safety, physical strength, and sensory regulation.
  • Jump Rope for Heart: We participate annually in this national event, promoting heart health and raising awareness through fun and engaging activities.
  • Inclusion with Local Schools: Throughout the year, we collaborate with neighboring schools to provide inclusive physical education opportunities, encouraging peer interaction and social development.
  • Music and Movement Collaboration: Our APE teacher works closely with the music therapist and physical therapists to integrate music and movement into physical education, making activities more engaging and accessible for all students.
This well-rounded approach ensures that students are supported not only in their physical development but also in their overall health and social growth, laying a strong foundation for lifelong wellness.
