Graduate Spotlight featuring……Sarah and Family

For the last month of school, we will be spotlighting a graduate and their families.  Each graduate was given a questionnaire to fill out with their parents about their time at Harbor School.

Question to Parent & Graduate:  How long have you and your child been at Harbor School?

Answer: Sarah has been attending Harbor since 2002.  Her first teacher was Mr. Charlie, whom she loved.

 

Question to Parent:  Why did you choose Harbor School for your child?

Answer:  Neptune City School District referred us.

 

“We instantly fell in love with all the loving people who greeted us when we toured.”

 

 

Question to Both:  Write some thoughts about our therapy department and how they have helped you/r child.

Answer: Absolutely Amazing!  Mary Beth (Ward, OT) and Carrie (Young, PT) always made themselves available via phone or note.  Both of them helped when Sarah was in the hospital with my millions of questions I had, without hesitation.

 

 

Question to Both:  Write some thoughts about your experiences with the administration, staff, teachers, etc.  Any personal stories would be appreciated.

Answer:  Mrs. (Anne) Gunteski has absolutely been a comfort/angel with anything we needed.  Miss Barbara and Diane in the office, we thank you for always greeting us with a great smile and kind words.  Mrs. Steelman, Mrs. Steinberger, Mrs. Redmond and Mrs. DePalo, we can not thank you for everything you have done for our Sarah.  Jasmine, you  have been amazing.  Thank you!

 

Question to Both:  What have been some of your favorite things at Harbor School?

Answer:  Sarah loves mingling with students from other schools.  She loves dances, group events but especially the Haunted House.

 

Question to Graduate:  Where are you going after graduating Harbor School?

Answer:  We are hoping the Ladacin Center.

 

Question to Parents: How has Harbor School, specifically the transition program, prepared your child for ‘Life after Harbor?’

Answer:  Sarah is well prepared for her transition. She has grown so much at Harbor.

 

Question for Both:  What will you miss most about Harbor School?

Answer:  We will miss all of our friends that we call family.

 

 

Question to Parent: Why should a parent with special needs children choose Harbor School?

Answer:  We have referred several people to Harbor.  Every time someone asks me, I say,

 

“Harbor is not only a school, but a family as well.”

 

Extra stories, anecdotes, memories, etc.

Sam, Sarah will miss you dearly. You are such a gentleman and so brave.  Jasmine, thank you for all you have done for Sarah.  We truly appreciate it.
