Do You Want to Build a Gingerbread House!

Every year, around the holidays especially, we try to instill in our students the gift of giving back.  Whether it is collecting food for the food bank, writing cards to soldiers or volunteering at different establishments, we want our students to feel how incredible it is to give back.

Once again, this year, some of our classes have participated in the “Gingerbread House Competition” for the Gingerbread Ball on December 2.

The Gingerbread Ball is an annual benefit for the Fisher House Foundation which is a “501(c)3 not for profit organization, serving military, veterans and their families, providing a home away from home while receiving medical care at major military and VA Medical Centers of Excellence.”  The houses are judged and auctioned off at the ball to raise money for the military and veterans.  Harbor School competes in the school portion of the competition.

This year the classes competing are Ms. Gepp, Mrs. Steinberger, Mrs. Congo, Mrs. Jecas, Mrs. D’Agostino’s and Ms. Rocci’s.  Our classes are given gingerbread starter kits and candies they will need for the decorating.

Each student in the class is involved in the whole process from conception, decorating and execution.  They spend all week on their gingerbread houses perfecting their construction. Once all the houses are finished, they are wrapped and picked up to be auctioned off at the ball.
