New Jersey 11th district awarded Harbor School a vetted designation for their role in special education

Eric Houghtaling, New Jersey Legislature Assemblyman, presented the award to principal Anne Gunteski

The New Jersey 11th district awarded The Harbor School a vetted designation for their role in 50 years of special education in New Jersey.

The Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey have proclaimed a joint legislative resolution honoring and saluting The Harbor School, and affirming the school’s importance to the people of this state. At The Harbor School 50th Anniversary event on August 9, 2019, Eric Houghtaling, New Jersey Legislature Assemblyman, presented the award to principal Anne Gunteski.

The resolution states, “This Legislature hearby congratulates The Harbor School as it marks fifty years of excellence in special education, pays tribute to the meritorious efforts of its leaders and educators, and extends sincere best wishes for continued success and vigor in the years ahead.”
The resolution goes on to call out many of the wonderful components of life and education at The Harbor School.

  • The Harbor School’s warm, nurturing environment provides an outstanding alternative learning program for students with a variety of disabilities to support the academic, functional, social, behavioral, and transitional needs of its pupils.
  • The Harbor School’s exceptional teachers are fully dedicated to empowering special needs students with skills for life, work, and recreation in furtherance of the core belief that “all people possess dignity and the potential to contribute to a better world.”
  • The Harbor School’s extraordinary staff is committed to fulfilling the needs of its students and their families. Therapists provide speech, occupational, and physical therapy. A social worker provides individual and group counseling sessions and conducts parent support groups. The school also offers on-site consultations for orthopedic, assistive technology, augmentative communication, and feeding issues in partnership with Children’s Specialized Hospital.
  • The Harbor School’s leaders and faculty have worked tirelessly and effectively to benefit their students. “Their exemplary devotion and motivation have enhanced the sterling reputation of this institute of learning.”

It is a great honor for us to receive this award as we celebrate fifty years of service to special needs children and their families in New Jersey, and we are extremely proud of our faculty and staff.
